The Role

As the first Accounting hire in the Finance Team, you'll be creating accounting processes for a novel financial instrument that helps people stay in their homes. You will have the opportunity to architect and manage foundational accounting tools and processes. You'll play a key part in defining and developing many critical systems that power the product, including ownership ledgers, payments & money movement systems, and more.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems with Head of Capital Markets & Finance, along with accounting advisors and partners
  • Manage accounting operations of the organization, including maintaining the general ledger and preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
  • Preparing budgets, forecasts and analyze and interpret data to make business recommendations
  • Establish and evaluated internal controls and guidelines as it relates to corporate finance, accounting and property management
  • Ensuring compliance with all tax and regulatory requirements, including real estate tax, income tax, and SEC reporting requirements in partnership with external tax advisors
  • You will succeed in this position if you can lead with integrity and reliability and have the ability to manage self and others with urgency, practicality and accountability when dealing with internal and external parties.

Looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA required
  • 3-8 years of relevant industry experience in Series A startups and later, real estate, asset management, investment funds, accounting firm, outsourced FP&A / accounting roles
  • Direct experience with residential real estate and fund accounting
  • Broad understanding of bookkeeping, data aggregation, payment operations, property management
  • Solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills
  • Knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Experience assembling compliant financial statements and investor reporting
  • Financial skills and experience developing budgets
  • Eagerness to take ownership and independently drive projects to completion
  • Ability to gather requirements from and collaborate with many parties and stakeholders
  • Relentless resourcefulness
